Welcome to A.P.P.L.E.!
The Okanagan-Similkameen-Shuswap-Thompson Valleys (Okanagan Region) are the main apple producing areas in British Columbia (BC); roughly 98% of all apple production in BC comes from the Okanagan Region, and accounts for about 30% of all apples grown in Canada. This is threatened by the impeding arrival of the invasive apple maggot pest, Rhagoletis pomonella.
This website: (i) provides information and awareness of the Rhagoletis pomonella, or apple maggot fruitfly, to the residents of the Okanagan Region; and (ii) is a citizen science portal for you to participate and help obtain spatial data of apple maggot host distribution, specifically hawthorn and apple, in the Okanagan Region.
Please explore this site to learn more.
Your cooperation and support are appreciated in the protection of B.C.’s interior apple industry from the apple maggot.
Spread the word, not the pest!
